This piece was a further exploration of the caning process. I wanted to focus in on the community aspect of the style. The chair was from a seller who told me stories of her father who tried to repair it before he passed. I used a colorful plastic material called gimp that is often used to make lanyards and friendship bracelets. There was also this aspect of education. I had to seek out the caning community to learn and children often pass off bracelet making techniques the same way.
